Free Trade and Development
Thursday the 26th of November
Many international institutions are suggesting developing countries to liberalize their markets and engage in free trade in order to spur economic growth. However, might not a phase of protectionism be more suitable for developing economies with the aim of prospering in the long run? Some economists such as the South Korean institutional economist Ha-Joon Chang have indeed supported these thoughts.

Refugee Crisis in Europe - A New Dawn or a Decline of the West?
Thursday the 8th of October
Currently, Europe is facing the biggest refugee crisis since the second World War: some European countries are receiving thousands of migrants every week, cities are struggling with providing accommodation and food for hundreds of people, and thousands have died in their desperate try to cross the Mediterranean sea, seeking a better future life and escaping war, crime and poverty.
A truly constructive and expansive solution for this issue, covering all European countries, has so far not yet been found. Instead, people have been reacting very differently in the face of this ongoing crisis, with some countries closing borders and people trying to create a "Welcoming Culture". On the other hand, the current crisis may as well be a chance for European countries suffering the consequences of demographic change, and may prove a challenge for the European Union to show what extensive cooperation can achieve.
